THE SECRET GARDEN

The book report is written for English class. The title of the book is “ The Secret Garden” and the author is Frances Hodgson Burnett. The book have 152 pages and the publisher is Sterling Publishing co., inc. The book copyright was in 2005 by Martha Hailey, The illustration copyright in 2005 by Lucy Corvino. The book was distributed in Canada, England and Australia. I chose this book because i liked the title of the book, it seems interesting. I also like this book because it has a mystery story and also the book is easy to read and carefully rewritten.

The main character of the book is Mary Lennox. The story of the book mostly written about her experience from she was born until she has grown up.

The other characters :

Ayah – an Indian nanny, who takes care of Mary Lennox when she was born.

Mr.Lennox - the father of Mary Lennox

Mrs.Lennox – the mother of Mary Lennox

Mr. Craven - Mary Lennox's uncle

Mrs. Medlock - Mr. Craven house keeper

Martha - she is Mrs.Medlock's servant

Ben Weatherstaff – young brother of Martha

Colin Craven - the child of Mr.Craven

Mr. Roach - the head gardener

Robin - a bird friend of Mary 

“The Plot”

The Secret Garden is a mystery book. It was set in London, England, in the 19^th century. The Secret Garden is a story about a garden which had been locked after death of Mr. Craven's wife, the aunt of Mary. Mr. Craven locked the door so that there will be no more accident similar to what happened to his wife. However, a bird (a Robin) gave the key to Mary, which she used to open the door of The Secret Garden. When Mary saw the plants in the garden, she was shocked that all plants were dying. She cleaned the garden and watered the plants. They came back to life.

The other notable attributes of the book are many surprises in the story, like a robin who could speak to Mary and let her into secret garden. Mary became more friendly to others after she went to secret garden.

Mary is trying to find her own happiness, place of peace and beauty in the secret garden.

The outcome of the book is that Mary found out there is a miracle in the secret garden. She was surprised when her cousin “Colin” could stand up from his wheel chair.

I liked the story of this book because it's intersting. A special place like a garden could change people's behaviour and also miracle . At the beginning of the story, Mary was a selfish and unfriendly girl. When her cousin 'Dickon' show her the secret garden, her life changes.

Mary became friendlier and shared the secret garden to others. I have learned that the secret garden is a special place for everybody.

I do believe in magic and miracle also. When i prayed at night sometimes my wishes come true. I really recommend to others to read this book.

 A miracle does happen in life.
